Lately, I’ve been playing around with lighting setups in my basement. Using a white backdrop, I’ve been taking what I like to call “product shots” of various things around the house. It should be noted that the photos below are not cutouts pasted on a white background – they were shot that way.
One of the biggest challenges in doing this is working with glass or reflective subjects such as the shot below of the beer steins. No matter what I tried, you could always see the reflection of light in the mugs. I eventually minimized it by moving the light into an overhead position and diffusing them with some white paper. In earlier versions, you could see the entire room reflected. I could clean up some of the reflections in Photoshop, but since this was more of an experiment, I can’t be bothered.
