Violin

Last night I spent some time photographing my wife’s violin. With the help of some close-up filters (basically magnifying glasses that screw onto the front of the lens) and a single light source, I spent time experimenting with different angles, lighting and compositions. After shooting the violin and the trumpet (see previous post), I can…

Valves

I’ve had this old trumpet for a while now. It was given to us about 9 years ago. I’ve never learned how to play it and have always wanted to get it in working order. For a couple years back, it decorated the walls of our apartment. The valves barely move and need some work…

Sunset Over Little Lake

The other day I was down by Little Lake with the intention of taking a sunset shot including the fountain and some epic streaking clouds. I was able to capture the fountain, but there wasn’t a single cloud to be found. This is a 13 second exposure used to capture the gradient of colours in…

I’m proud of this image for a couple reasons. I have been playing around in Google Maps lately trying to find interesting places close to home to shoot. A couple nights a week, I’ll head out after the kids are in bed and drive around, (I call it scouting), looking for new locations and inspirations.…

Front Gates

Lately, I’ve been starting to obsess over wide-angle photography. Unfortunately, the widest lens I own just happens to be my crappy kit lens 18-55mm. I love the look of photos taken at a wide angle as they really emphasize lines and shapes by distorting the perspective. Anyways, this is a shot I took a couple…

Between the Trees

Tonight, I headed down to Little Lake in downtown Peterborough to try and get some sunset shots over the water. I figured since there were clouds all day, it would make for an interesting sky with great colour… but no. All the clouds were gone and the sky was featureless and non-interesting. I turned my…
