For the second year running, we’ve rented a cottage with 3 other families. Last year, people said we were crazy, but it worked out so well we decided to do it again this year. The 16 of us got a monster 7 bedroom cottage on Esson Lake, just south of Haliburton for 7 days in mid-July. The cottage itself was in an odd spot. Perched to the side of a cliff, we had to walk down from the parking area to the cottage and then a further 130 stairs to the lake. By the end of the week, each of us had easily climbed the equivalent of the CN Tower (1,776 steps) and had massive leg muscles… probably.
We spent the days lounging around the cottage, spending time in the lake either swimming, canoeing or stand-up paddle boarding, sitting in the hot tub, playing pool, ping pong, or board games. I think we probably watched every Blue Jays game that week as well. We did a couple different outings to places like the Haliburton Forest and Wolf Centre, Silent Lake Provincial Park, and the Haliburton Farmers Market. From what I gather, everyone had a blast and we even started talking about options for next year!
